Year 12 End of Year Laptop Prep
Hello Year 12 students,
With the end of your time at Kolbe getting closer, it is time to start preparing to backup the data on your laptops you wish to keep (Details on Sheet below).
If your device is managed by the College and not a BYOD Device you must bring it into I.T. to get wiped from the Collegel Systems.
A simple way to tell if your device is managed by the College is:
Please be advised that if you don’t back up your data before the dates listed below, your data will be erased (Photos Included) and College accounts closed.
Our preference is for you to bring your laptop to I.T directly before you exit the College.
If you do not, please be aware your device will be wiped remotely by I.T.
Dates devices will start to get wiped remotely are:
Doing Exams: November 29th
Not doing Exams (Vocational Major, VCE students in a non-scored program): October 28th
If you get the below screens appear follow the below:
Connect to your Wi-Fi in the top right of the Enter: 122024
screen then click the ‘Restart’ button’.
NOTE: All accounts linked to your College account (email included) will be disabled and not accessible once you EXIT. The College has no control over personal Apple IDs added to the Laptop, please try and sign out of these before the dates listed above.
Any issues you contact I.T on 03 8339 3033 during normal College hours.
Back up Laptop
When backing up data from your laptop you have 2 options:
Option 1
When logged in under your account on the laptop you can copy the below folders directly from the internal Hard Drive to an external hard drive and then paste the back later.
This option is best used if wiping the laptop and wanting to add the files back after a complete wipe.
NOTE: any applications would need to manually be re-installed.
1. Under 'Finder' select Settings.
2. Make sure 'Hard disks' is ticked
3. The Internal hard drive of the laptop will then show on the Desktop
4. Double click on the 'Hard Drive' and follow the path below to see your 'Account Name'. Copy the folders you want to back up and paste them to an external hard drive. Paste those files under those folders back onto the laptop once you set up an account on your wiped device.
Option 2
Back up to the Cloud
When backing data up to the cloud you can do this 1 of 2 ways to Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive.
NOTE: This is to be a personal account not one linked to the College.
1. You can back up manually like in 'Option 1' to Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive.
2. You can download and login to your personal accounts for Google Drive app or Microsoft One Drive and set which folders you wish to back up to the cloud.
* Google Drive- https://www.google.com/drive/download/
* One Drive- https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/onedrive/download
NOTE: Any data from your College Google accounts you will need to download or forward onto your personal accounts what you wish to keep.
